Preview: The Gadget Show Live

Last month, we gave you the chance to win tickets to The Gadget Show Live, taking place in Birmingham this Friday.

To win a pair of tickets to the see the latest and greatest gadgets around, we asked you to tell us "Which recent gadget or tech development do you think is the most exciting for the future of the internet and why?".

We had some fantastic answers, including lots of love for the new iPad, a few mentions of cloud technology, and some interesting answers “the internet of things”. Here are some of our favourites, with links so you can find out more for yourself:

“Technologies such as OnLive will allow video games to be streamed over the Internet. This means no consoles, no expensive PCs and potentially unlimited games for a monthly subscription. Of course it is essential to have a good Internet connection for high resolution gaming but BE's high speed, unlimited bandwidth, low latency broadband is perfect for this!”

HTML5 for sure! It changes everything... Websites become applications right in your browser. Yes, you could do it before with all sorts of additional stuff, but now all you need is HTML5 compliant browser. And there are more and more of those every day, even on mobile devices.”

“Anything that acts as a bridge between the online world and the 'real' world. For example the further development further of Google Streetview (...to be even more invasive!) and the continuation of online/social networking so that anything and everything that happens in the real world has a root in the virtual world.”

“Internet ready tv's - making the whole web content/video streaming instantly available. Already in its infancy I see this as the next big thing over the coming years. TvB radio, web, interaction all from the comfort of your sofa, bed or bath!”

“I would have to say I am most excited about Google Chrome OS, or specifically the CR-48 netbook with it on. Since most of our internet lives are now part of "the cloud", why not take our OS there too? This netbook is incredibly sleek and unbranded, which only increases my tech-lust for it.”

“The advent of cloud based computing being a feasible, working solution not only for businesses but for personal use too. Taking the pressure and requirements away from personal devices and using internet connectivity to make software, services, data and media available whenever and wherever is exciting – I can’t wait to have everything everywhere on all my different devices, laptop, iPad, phone, mp3, TV etc all through the web”

What will our BE winners be up to?
As well as getting their sticky mitts on the latest hi-tech gadgetry, the members who won our Free BE Friday will be wandering around an entire hall dedicated to the best gaming, trying out the greatest and strangest personal transportation devices at the event’s test tracks, and experiencing a 3D Theatre that shows how technology is creating even more immersive viewing experiences.
