I use filesharing software for distribution of Free/libre software and which is freely licensed. I do not feel I ought to be penalised for this, nor should my ISP have to bear the cost of monitoring my internet connection purely to prop up the outdated business model of media distribution conglomerates. The Royal Mail aren't obliged to steam open my letters to see if anyone is sending me photocopied books. Why should digital communications be any different?

Seems to me that most of the pressure has come from lobbyists who are keen to artificially inflate the CD/DVD, etc, market prices. If you look into it, you will be amazed just how little of the revenue from sales of CD's goes in the pockets of the artists - I believe the record label get much much more...
